Namaste:

I was reading a article on Bhakti by Swamy Satyananda (http://k-yoga.se/artiklar/the-bhakti-age.html).

Swami talks about how the full form Bhakti in each of us is directed towards other form of bhavana (expression) like enmity, jealousy, desire etc. To learn/increase Bhakti He suggests "to change your direction, your path. You may direct the same emotion of yours which is travelling on the path of enmity, destruction, death, anger and lust towards God".

My question is how does one do that? to convert other emotions (lust, anger, enmity etc.) to Bhakti? Any insights would be helpful. Hope I am clear in my question.

Steve

Hi hemanthks,

In Taoist yoga as taught by Mantak Chia and Michael Winn, there is a process they call Fusion of the Five Elements where one transforms negative emotions into compassion. It requires that the microcosmic orbit be opened first. The fusion practice works with the five elements, their related organs and emotions (positive and negative). Mantak Chia has written a book on both the microcosmic orbit and another on the fusion practice that details the specifics. Both Mantak and Michael also have tapes and videos on their respective websites which provide instruction.

Another alternative more directly related to bhakti and the heart, is to pray the Open Heart Prayer and allow Divine Source to bless your heart directly, to remove the negative emotions and replace them with love and light. This helps to open the heart and strengthen your direct connection with Source. Instructions for practicing can be found at the Heart Sanctuary or Open the Heart websites. The second website has a more complete list of free downloads and instruction.

If you practice AYP on a regular basis (DM, SB, Samyama, Self-Inquiry), open and direct your heart to Source and begin to find outlets of service and expression that fit your nature, emotions and the effects of emotions will begin to transform over time. The cultivation of abiding inner silence, ecstatic conductivity and the accumulated effect of samyama especially on sutras like love, unity and radiance help to initiate a natural bhakti that begins to awaken and unfold. Of course, there are ups and downs on the path. And the same goes for bhakti. However, as you progress in your practice when negative emotions do arise, you will be less likely to attach the kind of negative thoughts and mental stories to them that strengthen and prolong their effect. It becomes easier to just let them wash through, let your heart take over and return to the peace, calm and joy that you are.

Along with AYP, praying the open heart prayer and Smile to Your Heart Meditations can be helpful.

Love and Light,
Steve

Thank You for the reply Steve:

Open heart prayer interests me. I will try to practice it along with DM and self Inquiry.

Thanks again,

Hemanth

Shakti is the raw energy from which all emotions are created. When they become directed up through the mind and out towards seperate external objects they become attachments. This state of attachment when directed externally contains within it the element of suffering (or loss) which then expresses itself as lust anger enmity etc (the fear of said loss). If you are going to convert these negative emotions to Bhakti, first you must give up your attachment to the external objects which have ensnared your Shakti then and only then will you be able to focus inwards towards your supreme self.

Swami Satyananda obviously by superconsciousness or whatever means a working beyond the astral and mental body in the karmic body changing your destiny by changing the negative path you are karmically going into a positive one.

Geshe Tenzin Wangyal uses for this process a method similar to bastrika and nauli called tsa lung by quickly uplifting the belly and an explosive exhale in letting drop the belly. The karmic winds get out of their structure. You can "ride" them now in another direction and path.

But whether he as bön known for black magic mixed with much uncleaned fear nor the subliminally intimidating Satyananda stress mainly bhakti so much Geshe Wangyal aims to love and peace towards family etc.

Methods on the astral level like fusion and Kan & Li of Mantak Chia are without sufficient cleansing not transformative enough and only a little bit sugar over negative emotions which easily explode when touched by normal life like long meditative Tibetan tantric pujas.
But the easy healing sounds in the edition Mantak Chia uses help by cleansing out negative emotions from the organs. The hotter hart edition of Michael Winn is nearer to fire bhakti methos also of Sufis.

Mantak Chia abhors heart opening as energy loss creating dependency from a guru robbing your best energies for own use. But opening the heart as the dominant energy like a governing lion in the cycle of elemental energies in the organs shown for the Dragon Gate sect in the book of Dr. Baolin Wu is wonderful and balanced creating surplus of heart healing energy. An environmental pollution the Tibetan exercise of taking the negativities of others into the heart and giving back transformed as light and love by a guru translator distribung this waydirt and similar New Age thinking show the limitation of such devotianal exercises of humility.
