Fall in love with the gift being given to you Not the box it comes in.
Fall in love with the silence Not the practices that bring you silence.
Fall in love with the truth being revealed to you Not the guru or system that is delivering the truth.
We miss so much by focusing on the form that delivers the truth to us. The ego will analyze, judge, defend, a guru or a system. That is what the ego loves to do.. engage itself in something. But when we let go the judgment, the analyzing, the defending... We let the actual teachings in. These teachings are real subtle and beyond the mind. Hence the mind does not get it.
Be.... ....silent......
Let go the attachment to the gift box And start enjoying the gift. The truths being sent to us The blessings being poured into our lives.
Fall in love with.... The guru in you... The silence. Shhhhhhhhhhhh...... |

Beautiful, Shanti!
Thanks for this!!
You have a gift for translating into a few poignant lines some of the key milestones and/or pointers we all experience on our non-journey home.
Ego and complete silent presence are mutually exclusive.
Awakening can involve so much needless struggle, because we think the form or content has something to tell us ... not realizing it's the silent awareness that's identifying with the form or content that is the answer we're seeking ... the answer we already are, now.
This poem articulates that truth beautifully.
Thanks Again!

Very lovely, Shanti
The gift comes to us on its own. The form it takes is... just a form...
This is what I feel.
Thank you

Once you taste the gift, you will fall in love with it and all that has to do with it.. including the box :) You will see the gift inside the box but also IN the box and IN all, because all will become the gift.
Thank you Shanti for the simple and beautiful lines.. Simplicity is powerful and beautiful..

QUESTION: WHAT IS A SAGACIOUS STUDENT, AND WHAT IS A DULL STUDENT?
ANSWER: A SAGACIOUS STUDENT DOES NOT DEPEND ON HIS TEACHER'S WORDS, BUT USES HIS OWN EXPERIENCE TO FIND THE TRUTH. A DULL STUDENT DEPENDS ON COMING TO A GRADUAL UNDERSTANDING THROUGH HIS TEACHER'S WORD: A TEACHER HAS TWO KINDS OF STUDENTS; ONE HEARS THE TEACHER'S WORDS WITHOUT CLINGING TO THE MATERIAL NOR TO THE IMMATERIAL, WITHOUT ATTACHING TO FORM OR TO NONFORM, WITHOUT THINKING OF ANIMATE OBJECTS OR OF INANIMATE OBJECTS... THIS IS THE SAGACIOUS STUDENT; THE OTHER, WHO IS AVID FOR UNDERSTANDING, ACCUMULATES MEANINGS, AND MIXES GOOD AND BAD, IS THE DULL STUDENT.
THE SAGACIOUS STUDENT UNDERSTANDS INSTANTLY; HE DOES NOT RAISE INFERIOR MIND WHEN HE HEARS THE TEACHING, NOR DOES HE FOLLOW THE SAGE'S MIND, HE TRANSCENDS BOTH WISDOM AND IGNORANCE. EVEN THOUGH ONE HEARS THE TEACHING AND DOES NOT CLING TO WORLDLY DESIRES, DOES NOT LOVE BUDDHA OR THE TRUE PATH, IF, WHEN HE HAS TO SELECT ONE OUT OF TWO, HE SELECTS QUIETNESS FROM CONFUSION, WISDOM FROM IGNORANCE, INACTIVITY FROM ACTIVITY AND CLINGS TO ONE OR THE OTHER OF THESE, THEN HE IS A DULL STUDENT. IF ONE TRANSCENDS BOTH WISDOM AND IGNORANCE, HAS NO GREED FOR THE TEACHING, DOES NOT LIVE IN RIGHT RECOLLECTEDNESS, DOES NOT RAISE RIGHT THINKING, AND DOES NOT HAVE ASPIRATIONS TO BE A PRATYEKA-BUDDHA OR A BODHISATTVA, THEN HE IS A SAGACIOUS STUDENT.
...if you choose between inactivity and activity, if you choose at all between right and wrong, you are a dull student. Choice makes you dull.
Don't choose and be free; choose and you have chosen your bondage. Choose and you are imprisoned immediately. Each choice is a prison.
There are people who have much but still desire more; their poverty is beyond belief. And there are people who don't have much and still don't desire anything more; their richness is beyond measure.
The only secret key is choiceless awareness.
These answers of Bodhidharma can be reduced to this single phrase: choiceless awareness. But don't cling to the words, experience it, because it is only experience that liberates.
Truly Right :) http://www.balbro.com/lotus/ |

Personally, I'd like to fall in love with a girlfriend, but there aren't many girls around here to date. |

Your observations are very poignant Shanti as Kirtanman noted, and deliberately so.
I've actually been contemplating this subject a lot myself these past few days, particularly the following famous words by Joseph Campbell:
"Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls."
This bliss truly is "Spiritual". By that I mean it does come from within. When we recognise this and approach our spiritual study/practices accordingly, they become even more fruitful as you articulated above.
Our practices are merely a vehicle (as is this human experience as a whole), the Spirit (or Guru) within us is the driver. When we recognise this it's much easier to keep our hands on the wheel and enjoy the ride!
Thank you for sharing dear friend.
Namaste,
Matt

Thanks Matt! I don't share much these days as my reality seems to change by the min. So when there is a "seeing" and I want to share it, I wait a few days, and by then it has already deepened or changed so there is nothing more to share. But this was one thing that came to me in 2009 and still holds true, just as much now as it did then. |
