I have been practicing Pranayama, spinal bastrika pranayama, uddiyana nauli, chin pump jalandhara for some time now. Most of the times when I complete all of this and move on to Deep meditation, I feel a lot of heat in my perineum and then I get sexually stimulated.

Tantric practices have helped me greatly but I just cannot understand how I go from perfectly normal state to high sexual stimulated state in just under an hour with no external input(like porn). Is this normal? I don't mind the heat but is there any way I can prevent sexual stimulation (it's too distracting and often ends up ruining my meditation)?

Hi ConfusedShiva,

It is quite normal to experience sexual arousal at a certain stage in the process of purification. Energetic practices such as Spinal Breathing, Spinal Bastrika and dynamic jalandhara can play a major part in this happening.

It happens, because as prana begins to rise up from the root, the first chakra it meets is the swadisthana, which is the sexual centre in the body. Yogani refers to this stage as "The bucking bronco effect". It is discussed in several places in the main lessons.

This stage does not last forever and as the process of purification continues the prana will move up into the higher centres, with different effects and symptoms.

If you find it too distracting for meditation, then you can self-pace your practice as necessary. Cutting out the advanced pranayamas one at a time, would be the first step if you decided to do this. Once you find a structure of practice that you can comfortably work with over the long term, then you can stick with that. Grounding is also important at this stage of the yoga.

See these lessons for more on this stage of the sadhana:

Lesson 235 - Blending Inner Silence and Ecstasy

Cold showers DO help.

You are undergoing progress, you can soldier through this. We are imperfect as humans, do the best you can. You drop a lot of balls learning to juggle
