I was wondering if anyone here has had an experience with food similar to my own. It seems that when I eat potatoes, fermented food, garlic, or bread, I have a very very difficult time abstaining from sexual indulgence, as in I pretty much fail every time. Anyways, maybe it's all in my head.

It's quite possible that you are right, especially if you are influenced by your thoughts, even without realizing it. You could experiment with your diet and find out. There are no majick diet that fit everyone's needs.
What's failing at abstaining from sex? If you are single it's your problem but Tantra practices like blocking and hold-back could help you. If you are in a couples relationship Tantra can help there also.

Hi ixtlander,

There are certain foods that are said to have a rajastic quality to them. These are things like onions, garlic, spicy foods, fermented foods, meat and so on. This is one reason why these foods are often absent from the diet in yogic ashrams in India. Rajas is the guna (quality) associated with over-activity and restlessness. Over-indulgence in sexual activity would be rajasic.

Bread and some other carbs can break down quite rapidly into sugars in the body, giving a sugar-rush which is also rajasic in nature.

One simple solution would be to cut these things out of your diet, if you are finding it to be an issue. The palate will adjust over time, to the point where you will become quite used to the new flavours and consider them to be normal.

More information on how we can make changes to our diet, in order to adjust inner energy imbalances that may be occurring, can be found in this lesson addition:
