She prescribed an allergy medicine to dry my ears out, but it did nothing for me. I also have water/fluid draining from the right ear. I am attempting to see a specialist (my appointment is at the end of the week), but is ringing something that is a common kundalini symptom? I always assumed it was in my case, until the clogging and fluid drainging, so I am trying the medical route. Any thoughts?

Hi Bigmindme,
Welcome to the AYP forums.

I am glad you went to the doctors and also checking with a specialist is a great idea.

Just one suggestion, have you tried acupuncture? That may help with this problem.

Also, there have been a lot of discussions on this at the AYP forums. Do a "Match exact phrase" search on the word "tinnitus". Maybe something in those topics will help.

May this pass quickly.
Wish you all the best.

Hello Bigmindme,

Yes when you look, you'll see one of my posts on the subject "tinnitus!"I have had to me it sounds like cicades in both ears, sometimes loud, high-pitched, sometimes low, where I hardly notice it. I have had this for I don't know how long.(years)And I have found nothing that helps this. Shanti has a good suggestion though about acupuncture.

Lately, I too have had blocked ears.It feels like I am wearing ear-plugs when I'm not! This only happens during meditation. I don't worry about it though.

Good luck!

As far as I know the yogis call it nada.

From www.aypsite.org/glossary.html
quote:

Nada Yoga – A path of yoga utilizing naturally occurring inner sound (such as OM) as the object of meditation. Since the natural occurrence of inner sound may not be consistent at any particular time in a practitioner, or among any number of practitioners, the consistency and effectiveness of nada yoga will also vary widely. In the AYP approach, nada may be heard in the form of inner sounds and vibrations (particularly OM), often accompanied by blissful ecstatic energy flow. The advice in such cases is to favor the procedure of the practice we may be doing at the time, since it is the practice that is producing the experience. In the case of AYP, nada (inner sound) is effect rather than cause.

From http://www.himalayanacademy.com/res...s_ch-38.html
quote:
LESSON 264
The High "eee" Sound

Within the quantum level of consciousness there originates a vibration, a steady vibration, that can be heard with the inner ear as a high-pitched "eeeee," as if a thousand vinas were playing, as if all the nerve currents in the astral body, physical body and the body of the soul were singing in harmony. It is a divine combination of the ida and pingala tones blended together in the sushumna. Each lineage of gurus has embedded within the psyche of tradition a certain combination of sounds, and listening to this mystic sound holds all devotees close to their satguru and all those who preceded him. It is also said that when one is in another birth, the sound is the same, and this will eventually lead the aspirant back to his spiritual lineage. Listening to the nada, as it is called in Sanskrit, or nada-nadi shakti, brings the threshold of bliss and shows that the balance of all karmas has been attained. Listening to the nada and tracing it into its source carries the seeker's awareness to the brink of the Absolute. There are today mystical orders that do nothing but listen to the nada while looking at and enjoying the darshan of their guru's picture.

Many sincere seekers wonder why they cannot hear "eeeeee," the nada, during their meditation, whereas others not only hear it during meditation but during the day when talking, shopping or just meandering through the garden. This is to say, it is there when awareness enters that area of the mind. The mind has to be made empty. That means resolving all unresolved conflicts within the subconscious. The striving to hear the nada will bring up unresolved issues. They may plague the conscious mind until resolved. At first you might disregard them and feel they will go away as abruptly as they came. But later, when they persist, and the major one is deception -- yes, we can even deceive ourselves -- we are inwardly forced to face up to, admit our secrets and make amends. When deception goes, the nada comes. When the subconscious is heavy, the nada and the brilliant colors it radiates fade. Failure on the path puts the nada out of range of the inner ear of the soul.

The mystical nada, it's a medley of sounds, and each sound which is there has a color, but may be covered, as is the light of the mind of the soul, the clear white light. It is covered, but not permanently. Admittance of the mistakes, the experience of repentance and the performance of penance, called prayashchitta, lay the foundation for a reconciliation that will release the force of lower nature into the higher and uncloud the veil that hid the inner light, that hid the nada -- that incomprehensible high-pitched "eee," sounding within the head, that incomparable source of inner security, contentment and outpouring of love. When you hear the nada, endeavor to project it in love's outpouring to all those who are in your orbit of communication. They will feel the blessings when your divine love is projected through your nada into their nada. This is the height of selfless consciousness, universal love, a constant mystically outpouring and experience of oneness. The sushumna is nada and more. Nada shakti is. It just is.

Hope it helps.

Absolutely not! You only made me more confused, though I must immediately admit that I'm also very grateful to you for causing this confusion. I have this ringing for as long as I can remember, though I was obliged to ignore it during my childhood and only "rediscovered" it when I started meditating (25 years in-between ). I'm going to check out more about n#257;da yoga... Thanks!

I wish to make a short reply.

First, I want to say thank you again for those that put my attention on this "inner sound" (pun intended).
Secondly, there is a great book available in English that delves a bit deeper on the subject:

Law of Attention
Edward Salim Michael
EAN: 9781594773044
Publisher: Inner Traditions

This book has been a great help to get me started and I use the inner sound now as a source of mindfulness and as object of concentration during meditation. Results-wise, I have progressed more in a week of being with the sound than months of breath mindfulness.
The book is written in simple language, very down to earth. No hocus-pocus, not even Sanskrit :) Just sound.

It took me a while to have this figured out.
The ringing in the ears seems to come from too much fire energy in the kidneys. Since according to TCM the ears are connected to the kidneys it makes sense. When the kidneys are weak and there is a lack of counter balancing yin it has no way but to come up.
To balance things out one has to adjust the diet to more yin oriented foods. Another great help was this technique:

The Second Sound – Kidneys:

Oh, that is interesting! I've had constant tinnitus for the past several months. Did you manage to relieve yours?

Want to hear something funny? I have had the sound of crickets in my ears as long as I can remember and you know - I have always assumed (and pretty sure) that it is indeed crickets.

Yes, got a lot better. The sound/breathing exercise I mentioned seems pretty effective.

Hi Everyone,

I agree with Machi about how confusing this is. I have had ringing in my ears and intermittent ear blockage most of my life. I have also meditated over a number of decades now. I have also been around loud power tools and music quite a bit over the years. Tinnitis is very common in the general population outside of yoga circles, because of the high decibel modern world that we live in. The sound of nada has been described as being like cicadas, or an 'eee' sound. Tinnitis can also be described in a similar way. I just wonder how we can distinquish between the subjective experience of nada and tinnitis without falling into the self deception which is warned about in lesson 262, quoted above. Maybe yogis just use their tinnitis for a higher purpose. I dunno.

The sound I get in both ears (but more loudly in the left ear) when doing pranayama is more a wind-up sound, like winding up a mechanical clock. Anyone know that one?

I've had tinnitus for a long time now, so I know meditation has nothing to do with it. However I did start noticing a sound of what I refer to as "distant machinery" or a "distant factory" in my right ear. I am pretty sure it started with meditation but not 100% sure. I do know that it has been getting "closer" in the sense that the sound is getting louder and taking on difference characteristics. The tinnitus is a high-pitched tone, this other sound is something quite different.

For a week or two I had a weird thing in the same right ear where vibrations from my voice or externals sounds would vibrate my right eardrum or something in the ear canal perhaps. It was weird, but it went away after about 5 days.

Over the past few days I've noticed a twitch in my right eardrum. It's quite annoying.

I can tell I'd any of these things are caused by meditation, but the right ear stuff began happening around the time I started meditating and has intensified since. Doesn't necessarily mean the meditation has anything to do with it, could be a coincidence.

Namaste Folks,

Coincidence or what? I just received a package today, from one of my dearest friends. A beautiful soul, indeed! Inside was Swami Nityananda's book on Kriya Yoga, some lovely inscence and an inscence burner, which is a small statue of HoTai (the Chinese Laughing Buddha). Ho Tai is seated blissfully, big belly extended and cupping his hand to his right ear. Listening enrapturingly to the Celestial Note, the Sacred Sound Current.

Yes, the inner journey can be fraught with many, many confusing experiences. But there is a world of difference between tinnitus and Nada (Shabd/the Sound Current). Primarily, tinnitus is a PHYSICAL occurrence in the material ears, plural. I had water on the ear when I was 10 years old and had tinnitus symptoms, for a few weeks afterwards, following the infection. The two are NOT the same. It's cause, tinnitus, is of physical origin and is an affliction to some extent, most certainly.

The high-pitched ringing heard from within, however, is audible predominantly but not necessarily, from the right side of the head/brain hemisphere. But the inner sound originates from the Ajna or The Third Ear. It is directly resultant from honed concentration, as we engage in deepest meditation.

This is a signpost of sorts, indicating one is attuned to higher and subtler levels of conscious-awareness which transcend the material realm. It is the AUM vibration in the highest tonal frequency and its revered as Sacred by countless seekers (both Sufis and Yogis), world-over, as the Sacred HU. Of course, it's enigmatic tone alludes human wording. It is truly a great blessing!

In my own small experience, following this scintillating ringing tone to it's source, leads to the deepest quietude imaginable. That wondrous stillness, within the roaring silence. Like all spiritual phenomena, such miracles guide one's fixed attention towards that resplendent state, that ecstatic-blissfulness which is our truest being and our eventual awakening; our eternal destination to where we have always been residing (serenely, indivisibly, wholly enraptured in the formlessness of Brahman).

Just sayin'... God bless you all, my dear spiritual friends.

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

i developed tinnitus after begining kriya. eventually i began to hear more tones inside that first tone. then the tone appeared in my left ear. sometimes i can bring these tones together in the center of my head and create a circle. i usually pass out into a dreamless sleep as i can not handle the intensity

Thank you Govinda .... For the last 20 years of my meditative life I have had this sound avail me mostly during the practice of meditation but the last 5 years this deafening sound of silence pervades my being more prominently ... as soon as i make myself aware of its presence it allows me to transcend during waking moments ... in meditation if I follow it it becomes the duality of deafening silence and expands to the be everything and nothing
For this I thank a great sage for bringing the teaching of Simple meditation to the light of this world Thank you
