Most of us raised in a predominantly Christian culture are familiar with the prayer given by Jesus, when asked by his disciples, how they should pray:

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed by thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom
And the power
And the glory
Forever and ever
Amen

.... and some may find that beautiful; I find that it loses a lot of the meaning (the translation from spoken Aramaic to written Greek to old English ... lost a lot in translation) .... and a whole lot of that authentic Middle-Eastern vibe that was undoubtedly part of the original oral tradition, per the Western Aramaic that was spoken in that region in the time of Jesus.

Give this a listen ............ and let me know if you agree.

AUDIO: The Lord's Prayer in Aramaic (Song)

And if you'd like to sing along ....... the actual prayer is:

Abwoon d'bwashmaya,
Nethqadash shmakh,
Teytey malkuthakh.
Nehwey tzevyanach aykanna d'bwashmaya aph b'arha.
Hawvlan lachma d'sunqanan yaomana.
Washboqlan khaubayn (wakhtahayn)
aykana daph khnan shbwoqan l'khayyabayn.
Wela tahlan l'nesyuna.
Ela patzan min bisha.
Metol dilakhie malkutha wahayla wateshbukhta l'ahlam almin.
Amen

Wholeheartedly,

Kirtanman

PS- And if you'd like to see how deep the Lord's Prayer actually goes, yogically/kabbalistically ....
check out this article, analyzing its structure in the light of the Tree of Life (equivalent to the Chakra system, in yoga), and the Four Worlds (Emanation, Creation, Formation and Action -- the flow of consciousness from unified original awareness to manifestation) of the Kabbalah ... written by a 32nd Degree Freemason.

After all, all of this is always only about the awareness that we each and all now actually ever are, now.

And a handful of people, in every wisdom tradition, have always known it ..... and thankfully, they encoded it into the world's religions into a way that even the most disturbed and distorted egos couldn't bury entirely.
