Consistency in practices is encouraged by well-known and widely followed spiritual teachers..

..Suggesting the likeliness of a general necessity for a very slow limited-dimensional build-up approach in spiritual practices (cfr. the steady continuous growth process of a tree).

Perhaps it also appears that spiritual teachers tend to very much encourage consistency in one chosen method because this is their nature:
Teachers with a nature of developing foundations and building are more likely to build/create schools/infrastructures/resources to disseminate methods to their experiences, than the personalities whom became enlightened through airy-flighty difficult-to- trace means.
Which would imply that there would be a bias towards consistency recommendations over flexible/airy type approaches: The teachers whom are more prone to favour the latter are less likely to disseminate methods to their approach in an organized way that may reach a wide audience, for their path was of a very different kind in the first place.

Do you know of enlightened beings whom have followed a very flexible or intermediate approach (eg. practicing many different practices in not so structured ways) or an imperceptible?

Is the spiritual path more likely to be like the growing of a tree than the blossoming of a flower..

Flowers blossom on trees and around trees, nearby or far.
Perhaps generations of trees made the soil rich and fertile so that eventually flowers could blossom..
Can flowers blossom where trees have never grown..
