In my core story,
I need appreciation.
Doesn't satisfy.
One of the stories that has been a source of suffering for me is that I need to be appreciated (by others) in order to be happy. Truth is, even when others are openly appreciative of me, it doesn't make me happy. Not for long anyway. This understanding brought me to the inquiry "I need to appreciate myself." Truth is, that doesn't satiate either. This understanding has helped me to realize that happiness (for me) exists when action is spontaneous, agenda-less and free from any need for retribution.
