Lesson 23 - Meditation Q&A – Watching the clock

From: Yogani
Date: Mon Dec 1, 2003 6:53pm

New Members: It is recommended you read from the beginning of the archive, as previous lessons are prerequisite to this one. The first lesson is, "Why This Discussion?"

Q: I keep peeking at the clock while I am meditating, afraid I will go over my time. How do I break this distracting habit?

A: You have a biological clock that is quite accurate. Give it the opportunity to work. It only needs to be spot checked with a clock occasionally. As you get settled in the habit of regular meditations, keeping the time will become second nature. So, trust yourself. It's okay if you go over your time inadvertently. Better that than being distracted. First let go of the habit of watching the clock. Don't mind the time at all. Be easy about it. Your body knows pretty much when twenty minutes are up. After a few weeks of daily practice you will open your eyes for the first time during a meditation and the clock will show that twenty minutes have gone by. You will be amazed how easy it is. Then timekeeping will continue automatically with no effort at all.

The guru is in you.

Note: For detailed instructions on deep meditation, see the AYP Deep Meditation book.
